Lakers end regular season with split in cross over games

Having to participate in cross over games the final week of the season due to Cameron leaving the conference this year the Lakers girls downed the Birchwood Bobcats Tuesday night before losing their road finale in Grantsburg to the Pirates Thursday night.
The Lakers met the Birchwood Bobcats Tuesday night, February 18 on the home floor. The Lakers beat the Bobcats November 21 to open the season. Tuesday night was no different as the girls ran away with a 64-12 win.
Allison Wagner and Sophia Ellis combined for the first eight points as the Lakers jumped out to an 8-4 advantage.
Madison Rose drove the lane for two which started a 31-0 run that took the two teams into the half with the Lakers on top 39-4. Ellis and Wagner led the way with 12 points apiece. Rose finished the first half with 8 while Taylor Andersen chipped in 7.
Ellis and Andersen hit the first two Laker hoops of the second half. Birchwood responded with a pair of hoops themselves. The Lakers then salted this one away with a 19-2 run. Led by Andersen’s six, seven different Lakers found the scorebook. Birchwood finished the contest with the final two baskets.
Sophia Ellis led the Lakers with 16. Taylor Andersen added 15 while Allison Wagner had 12 and Madison Rose chipped in 8.
On Thursday night, February 20 the Lakers traveled to Grantsburg for the season finale. The Pirates made it two in a row over the Lakers this season with a 63-48 win.
The Pirates, who shot nearly 40% from the floor, jumped out to a 31-19 lead at the half. The Lakers played a better second half, 32-29 Grantsburg, but fell 63-48.
Jaylee Humphrey and Sophia Ellis led the Lakers with 12 apiece. Humphrey was 100% from the floor, going two for two from inside the arc and two for two from outside the arc. She was also two of two from the freethrow line and chalked up two steals.
Ellis was four of six from the floor and added a four for four night at the line.
Allison Wagner chipped in 8 points on four of six shooting, added 8 rebounds and a steal.
