New Faces Will Fill Key Spots On Laker Football Team

The Laker football team hit the field Friday night for a scrimmage in Clear Lake. After advancing to the Level III playoff picture a year ago and then losing ten key players to graduation there are a number of gaps to fill on both sides of the ball plus high expectations entering new conference play this year.
“It was so nice to see the boys out on the football field,” Head Coach Doug Kahl said. “For a while this summer, I did not know if this would ever happen.”
“We will be playing in a new conference this year. Overall, I think the Dunn-St. Croix will be a good fit for us. We are looking forward to making some new rivals and maintaining some old ones,” Coach Kahl added.
“I thought the boys played well during the scrimmage. The defense played aggressive and fast. The offense made steady improvements from the first snap to the last play. We have so many players in new positions, it was nice to see them out competing against an opponent in a game like situation.”
The Clear Lake Warriors will be a common foe as they have moved to the Dunn-St. Croix Conference this year also.
The Lakers will open up regular season play Friday, September 25 at home against Cadott. This has also been slated as Homecoming and Senior Night. Other conference foes include Boyceville, Colfax, Spring Valley, Elmwood/Plum City, Glenwood City and Clear Lake.
