Polk County man dies in snowmobile accident
A rural Centuria man died in a Polk County snowmobile crash Saturday, February 12. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a fatal snowmobile crash near 170th Ave and 200th street in St Croix Falls Township. The call was received at 11:16 a.m. Preliminary investigation shows that 71-year-old Lynn Johnson was snowmobiling and lost control along a marked snowmobile trail. Johnson was ejected from his snowmobile and succumbed to injuries from the crash. Alcohol may have been a factor in this crash.
Johnson is just one of ten snowmobile related fatalities in the State of Wisconsin since the beginning of the year and one of three deaths reported on the weekend. There were 13 total fatalities in 2021.
The Wisconsin DNR is leading the investigation in this case. Assisting the Wisconsin DNR were the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Centuria Fire Department, Centuria First Responders, Lakes Area EMS, and the Polk County Medical Examiner.
