TC Girls Use 15-Hit Attack To Coast To 17-4 Win Over Bruce

The TC girls evened their record at 1-1 last Monday afternoon when they scored 13 runs in the last four innings to run away with a 17-4 road win over Bruce. Payton Lamont went the distance, pitching 7 innings of 5 hit softball, giving up 4 runs, all earned, on 5 hits, 6 walks and 14 strikeouts. Petrus of Bruce took the loss, pitching 7 innings, giving up 17 runs, 14 earned, on 15 hits, 8 walks and 10 strikeouts.

TC got on the board in the top of the first when Rhea Bodsberg reached on a dropped third strike, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Morgan Mrdutt’s fly out to center for a 1-0 lead.

TC made it a 4-0 game with three more runs in the top of the second. Shayna Rainey led off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. She ended up on third on a wild pitch and scored on Grace King’s double. Autumn Heller scored King on a single but would be forced on a fielder’s choice by Avery Hubbard. Bodsberg then lined a triple to left, scoring Hubbard, but was stranded on a ground out and strikeout.

The girls would add two more in the top of the third. King and Heller reached on errors to lead off the inning. King scored on a passed ball with Heller moving to second. Hubbard’s single scored Heller. Hubbard was gunned down at second before Bodsberg drew a walk. Bodsberg stole second and scored on Mrdutt’s single to left. A pair of line outs ended the inning with TC enjoying a comfortable 7-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth Kirstan Keppen reached after getting hit by a pitch. King stroked a one-out single to left, moving Keppen to third. After Hubbard was hit by a pitch, loading the bases, Keppen scored when Bodsberg drew the bases loaded walk, making it an 8-0 score.

Lamont drew a one-out walk in the top of the sixth and went to second on Keppen’s single. Rainey followed with a single to load the bases. Lamont and Keppen would score on a Bruce error and Rainey scored on King’s triple. A wild pitch brought King to the plate before a flyout and groundout ended the inning with TC extending their lead to 12-0.

Bruce managed to put four runs on the board with two outs in the bottom of the sixth before a five-run TC seventh ended the contest by the final of 17-4.

Grace King led the TC hitters with a 3 for 5 performance including 3 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Avery Hubbard was 2 for 3 with a walk, one run scored and one batted in. Shayna Rainey went 2 for 4 with a walk and 3 runs scored. Payton Lamont was 2 for 4 with a walk, one batted in and one scored. Rhea Bodsberg was 1 for 3 with 3 walks, 2 runs scored and 2 batted in. In total TC pounded out 17 runs on 15 hits with 8 walks.
