Eight Titans Qualify For WIAA Division 3 Sectional Tournament

The Turtle Lake/Clayton Titans wrestling team will have eight wrestlers qualified for the Sectional tournament Saturday, February 22 in Ladysmith. Qualifying were Luke Moen, Brady Kobernick, Luke Popenhagen, Owen Anderson, Carter Daugherty, Brandon Wright, Ryan Shortess and Cain Casarez.
At 106-lbs., junior Luke Moen (37-11) will meet Sawyer Kundinger of Auburndale, a 36-15 freshman, in his opening match.
At 120-lbs., freshman Brady Kobernick (27-14) will face Derek Godard of Auburndale, a 44-8 senior, in his opening round match.
Luke Popenhagen, a 31-16 junior, meets 40-5 Colin Cournoyer, a junior from Stratford, in round one.
At 144-lbs. it will be Owen Anderson, a 32-15 sophomore, matched up against Marathon’s Swayne Stencil, a 43-7 junior.
At 157-lbs., Carter Daugherty, a 27-18 sophomore, will face Mitchell McGee of Glenwood City, a 41-1 senior.
In round one of the 165-lb. bracket, junior Brandon Wright, 43-9, is pitted against junior Aaron Sturn, 30-18, of Stanley.
At 190-lbs. it will be senior Ryan Shortess, 31-8, facing off against Brock Webster, a 24-21 sophomore from Cadott in their opening round.
Cain Casarez, a 34-15 sophomore, will meet Blake Fayerweather of Glenwood City, a 33-10 senior.
The top two wrestlers in each weight division will advance to the Division 3 State Wrestling Tournamentn held Thursday – Saturday, February 27 – 28 and March 1 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
