Same Meals; Same Great Service; Just New Owners At The New Frontier

For just over twenty years now The New Frontier Restaurant has been owned and operated by Paula and Tom Wherley. During discussions of retirement the Wherley’s approached long-time associate, Megan Jobe, with the possibility of taking over ownership of the restaurant.
“The current owners, Paula & Tom Wherley, mentioned that they were retiring and approached us with an opportunity to take over,” explained Megan. “Since I have been working for them for 19 years and have been managing the restaurant for them for 7-plus years we felt the time and opportunity was right.”
Megan started at the New Frontier as a part time waitress and soon began cooking and waitressing full time. Taking on these responsibilities then progressed into taking on the role of managing the restaurant.
“When the Whereley’s decided that retirement was in the cards, they presented the opportunity to go the last step to own and operate. This is when Jason and I decided, with my experiences working at The New Frontier and his past experiences working in the food industry, we should pursue and take on this endeavor.”
The Jobes will keep the establishment’s name as The New Frontier. They will be open seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The only days they will close will be for the holidays of Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas.
The New Frontier originally opened in May 1961 and was owned and operated by Elmer McChesney and had been the former Coach Cafe. The menu back then featured broiled steaks, chicken, seafood, short orders and real good coffee. Fast forward sixty five years to today’s offerings of breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers and desserts, especially their gigantic cinnamon and caramel rolls.
“The rolls will be rocking, as we intend to offer all of the beloved favorites from the current menu of breakfast and lunch dishes. We also intend to continue our Oktoberfest specials in October and November, Swedish Meatballs and Lutefisk in December, and the Corn Beef and Cabbage in March. We will also be looking at some new dishes in the future once we get our feet under us.”
Jason has been in the Turtle Lake area since 1991 and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1995. Megan was born and raised in Aitkin, MN, graduating from Aitkin High School in 2003. She moved to the Turtle Lake area in 2007.
The Jobes enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking and agate hunting on the North Shore. The have four children and a Shorky, Charlie. Megan is currently an active member of the Turtle Lake Lions Club.
“Both Jason and I are looking forward to continuing to serve our current clientele, along with welcoming in the new!”
