Mason Quade Qualifies For State Wrestling Tournament
Turtle Lake/Clayton wrestler Mason Quade, 132 lbs., has qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament in Madison this coming weekend, Thursday, February 23 – Saturday, February 25th. Quade placed third at Sectionals in Edgar on Saturday, February 18th to punch his ticket. Quade is the second generation Quade to make the State Tournament. His father, BJ Quade, wrestled at the State Tournament in 2000. Mason and BJ are the first father/son duo in Turtle Lake to accomplish this feat.
Mason started the day with a loss by pin to Dylan Dodson of Marathon in 2:43. Dodson then beat Ladysmith’s Clayton Roscoe to put Quade back into the tournament. Quade then face Clayton Roscoe of Ladysmith in the consolation semifinals. Roscoe had beat Quade last weekend in Regionals with a score of 11-2. This match started out the same way, Quade found himself down 6-1 in the second period when he was able to take Roscoe down and put him to his back with a standing cradle and secured the pin in 3:02. That win put Mason in the third place match, with the winner earning a trip to the State Tournament. Quade faced a familiar foe, Adrien Olson of Unity. Quade had pinned Olson the previous two weekends at Conference and Regionals. In the first period Quade earned the first takedown but was then penalized with a locked hands call, making the score 2-1 in favor of Quade. In the second period Quade chose the both up option and was able to take Olson down again but Olson earned an escape at the edge of the mat, bringing the score to 4-2, Quade again took down Olson. In the third period Olson chose the both up option, Quade took him and put him to his back and earned the pin at 4:53 to send him to State. Quade earned 12 teams points. Quade heads to the State Tournament with a record of 25-14 and 17 pins.
