ELOISE ANTON

Eloise passed away peacefully on May 17th at 96 years of age at Golden Age Manor in Amery, WI. She was born on May 6, 1930, on the family farm in Turtle Lake, WI to Alex and Emma (Peterson) King. She attended Turtle Lake Schools and was both Valedictorian and Prom Queen in 1948. After graduation she took a clerical position at the Turtle Lake Creamery where she met John Anton. They married on September 15, 1951, and in 1957 settled in New Richmond, WI.
Through the years Eloise was a homemaker and integral partner in John’s upholstery business. Together they collected and restored antiques and restored two historic homes in New Richmond and a Bed & Breakfast in Stillwater, MN. In 1973, Eloise answered an ad for a clerical position in the City Clerk’s office in New Richmond. In 1982 her boss retired so she decided to run for the City Clerk position. She was elected and served as City Clerk until her retirement in 1989. She and John then bought a hobby farm near Deer Park where she could indulge her love of gardening and her growing interest in rug hooking, yarn dying and spinning and other fiber arts. Of all her interests, though, the most important was her family. She was an exceptionally loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Eloise is survived by her children, Jane (Bill) Minge, Mary Susan (Nick) Chaves, and Tom (Karen Sager); grandchildren, Alex and Emily Minge, Alyssa Drury, Sarah (Greg) Chapeau, Megan Anton; and great-grandson, Jameson Chapeau. She is also survived by sister, Peggy Strasser; sisters-in-law, Betty (Glen) Nickel and Marion (Phil) Stumo; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, John; brothers, Warren and Richard King; and sister, Mary Ann Raffesberger.
Eloise’s family is profoundly grateful to the staff at Golden Age Manor and Adoray Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at East Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amery. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church with lunch following the service. A private family interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at a later date.
