Andrew Buck Finishes 5th At State Golf Tournament

Fifty-three Division 3 high school golfers took to the course at University Ridge in Madison, the home course for the US-Badgers, for the 100th annual WIAA State Boys Golf Champsionships Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9. Turtle Lake seniors Andrew Buck and Brandon Wagner were among the high school elite competing for the gold. After two days of golf Buck finished in a tie for fifth while Wagner experienced tough second rounds on Monday and Tuesday, posting a 44th place finish.
On Monday, Buck posted one of the lowest two round of golf of the tournament to that point, posting a 38 on the first round and a 37 on the second for a two-round total of 75, finishing day one in a tie for third. Matti Heikkinen, a junior from Prentice, and Eliah Harding, a senior from Prentice, posted the lowest rounds at 73 each.
On Tuesday scored began to drop on the leaderboard. David Van Dixhorn, a sophomore from Kohler, finished with the low round of 70, 35 on both the front nine and back nine. Dane Moore, a sophomore from Mishicot, trailed by one, finishing with a 71. Buck finished with an 80, shooting a 37 on the front nine and a 43 on the back. Buck’s two-day total of 155 was good enough for the fifth place finish.
Brandon Wagner got Monday going with a 45 on the front nine but ran into some difficulty on the back nine, shooting a 54, for a first day total of 99.
On Tuesday, Wagner shot a 42 on the front nine and a 50 on the back nine for a total of 92 and a two-day total of 191.
“Although Brandon didn’t finish where he wanted, he never gave up on any hole and enjoyed a trip to another state tournament. After 18 holes, and a short weather delay on Monday, Andrew found himself 3 over par. The following day proved a bit more challenging, but he continued to lock in on the back nine. Andrew shot 155 after 36 holes and earned himself a 5th-place finish in Division 3. Congratulations to both of these Turtle Lake senior athletes,” Coach Steve Bergmann said.
