Bailey Peterson earned the title Queen of the Lakes and Snows dur- ing Saturday night’s coronation ceremonies at the Turtle Lake Inter-Co. Fair. Makayla Fagerlin will be this year’s Princess. Selected as the 2016-17 Little Miss Turtle Lake was Kylie Schaber. Princesses selected were Riley Tempel and KcKayla Pittman.
A 35-year old Turtle Lake man was taken into custody Monday evening after eluding capture for more than eight hours. Around 1:00 p.m. a search began for a rural Turtle Lake suspect who was initially being sought for a reported domestic battery that had occurred about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning.
The 50th annual Turtle Lake Turtle Derby was held at this year’s Turtle Lake Inter-County Fair. After six heat races featuring nearly 30 turtles, the top three turtle were decided in a very exciting championship heat. Back at this year’s Turtle Derby was the very first winner, David Pabst of Turtle Lake. David helped by starting off each race. This year’s winners were James Flynn, Turtle Lake, 2nd place; Sydney Leschisin, Turtle Lake, champion; and Tori Richards, Almena, third place.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a Public Hearing that will provide an opportunity for members of the public to give official input regarding alternatives studied for eventual construction of a multilane facility that meets future transportation and safety needs for US 8 between WIS 35 North and US 53 in Polk and Barron counties. The public hearing will convene at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the Turtle Lake Public School gymnasium, 205 Oak Street North, Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.
Molly Stafne, daughter of Bruce and Rachel Stafne, was crowned Queen of the Lakes and Snows during the annual coronation ceremonies held Sunday afternoon at the Turtle Lake Inter-Co. Fair. Christy Madison, daughter of Bill and Ranae Madison, and Lauren Hanson, daughter of Paul and Bonnie Hanson, were crowned Princesses. New this year was the selection of Miss Congeniality. Receiving this year’s crown was Brittany Johnson, daughter of Mark and Cheryl Rouzer and Darren Johnson.
MiKayla Mathiew, daughter of Steve and Melissa Mathiew, will represent Turtle Lake as the 2006-07 Junior Miss Turtle Lake. Selected as Princesses were Ashley Leggett, daughter of Jennifer Wallisch and Chad Legget, and Kelly Catlin, daughter of Jim and Lori Catlin.
Gas prices topped the $3.00 a gallon mark at all three Turtle Lake gas stations last week. The cost of a gallon of gas has raised almost a dollar since May 20, 2004, when it was $2.09.9. It topped the two dollar mark on May 14, 2004 and was $2.79.9 in August, 2005.

Four young ladies of the Turtle Lake area are competing for the title of 1996-97 Queen of the Lakes and Snows at the Turtle Lake Inter-Co. Fair. This year’s candidates are Amy Carlson, daughter of David Carlson and Brenda Carlson; Brooke Broker, daughter of Leroy and Bonny Broker; Shilo Gall, daughter of Gary and Kathy Gall; andd Kristine Olsvig, daughter of Garold and Carol Olsvig.
Joyce Kasper, representing the Turtle Lake Lioness Club, presented a check to Turtle Lake Police Chief John Warland as a donation to be used to purchase activity books for young children to teach them how to dial 9-1-1 in emergency situations.
Nine young ladies are hoping to succeed 1995-96 Little Miss Turtle Lake, Jennifer Matton, daughter of Bud and Lynn Matton, and her court, 1st Princess Ashley Sollman, daughter of Scott and Shelly Sollman, and 2nd Princess Heidi Becker, daughter of Tom and Toni Becker. This year’s candidates are LeAnn Broker, daughter of Stretch and Sandy Broker; Lisa Dipprey, daughter of Don and Sheila Dipprey; Jamie Dreyer, daughter of Charles and Debbi Thill; Alicia Henck, daughter of Jeff and DeAnn Henck; Amber Hubbard, daughter of Mark and Darla Hubbard; Sara Outcalt, daughter of Jeff and LuAnn Outcalt, Adrienne Raffesberger, daughter of Bill Raffesberger and Andrea Gazdik; Ericha Raffesberger, daughter of Bill Raffesberger and Andrea Gazdik; and Sierra Swantish, daughter of Rich and Abby Swantish.

It’s been over a decade, but by popular demand, tractor pulling is coming nback to the Turtle Lake Inter-County Fair. Tractor pulling has taken on a new twist in the last couple of years and this includes the pulling of “antique”, ‘classic”, and the always popular “farm” tractors.
Five young ladies residing in the Turtle Lake School District have entered the competition for the title of Queen of the Lakes and Snows. One will receive the title and crown in coronation ceremonies on Saturday evening, July 12, during the Turtle Lake Inter-County Fair. The candidates include Jenny Bearhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Stream; Roxanne Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Hall; Pam Outcalt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Outcalt; Sandy Seeger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Millian Seeger; and Susan Stoeberl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stoeberl.
Kevin Jansen, Dean Gross, Kristy Gross, Troy Gross, Jeremy Gamache and Heidi Jansen, all members of the Lucky Horseshoe 4-H Club, helped promote the use of REAL dairy products during the Dairy Promotion sponsored by the club at Becker’s Super Valu on Saturday, June 21.
Bill Dieters of Eagle River, Alaska, formerly of Turtle Lake, was pictured with a large halibut he caught on June 7yh in Resurrection Bay at Seward, Alaska. Bill reports that it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to land the lunker, that weighed 155 lbs.The fish measured 5 feet 8 inches in length. With Bill at the time he caught the fish were his son Justin and daughter, Marisha.

The 1976 Turtle Lake Inter-Co. Fair has been judged the biggest and best ever in terms of crowds attending and number of events held. Lions President Allen Carlson introduced the six Queen of the Lakes and Snows contestants, Cathy Fredrick, Carol Gores, Karen Heintz, Debbie Raffesberger, Jean Ritsche and Bev Wohlk, and the outgoing Court, Queen Janelle Ostermann and Princesses Shari McCann and Sue Ritsche. The outgoing court was then given the results of the previous day’s judging and each named her successor. Debbie Raffesberger wa named 2nd runner-up, Bev Wohlk was named 1st runner-up and Jean Ritsche was named the new 1976-77 Queen of the Lakes and Snows.
A mobile home used as a summer home on Moon Lake and owned by Jerry Pelton of Hudson was completely destroyed by an explosion early Sunday morning, July 4. The Clayton Fire Department was summoned to the scene and extinguised a small fire. The explosion is thought to have been caused by a leak in the propane tank into the trailer and ignited by something electrical that was inside the trailer.
A car that had been stolen in Reno, Nevada was recovered in Turtle Lake early Wednesday morning, June 30 and its occupants taken into custody by Turtle Lake Police Chief F.F. Anderson and Barron County Sheriff’s Dept. investigator Charles Christianson.
Monday evening, July 5th, the Turtle Lake Legion team hosted Amery at Turtle Lake for their second meet of the season. Kevin Hoffman came to bat and with the count of 1 strike and two balls he hit a fly ball out over the first baseman’s reach to bring Marv Dietrich for the winning run as the Lakers won 2-1. Tom McQuillan collected one double and one single and scored once. John Drum and Jeff Hoffman each were able to gain one stolen base apiece.
