A new tradition this year for the senior graduating class was a Senior Walk. Seniors donned their caps and gowns and retraced their Turtle Lake Schools career from Pre-K through their Senior year. Students waited outside the classrooms and in the halls to congratulate the seniors and wish them the best of luck in the future. The twenty-nine seniors made their final walk Friday evening as they received their diplomas during the annual graduation ceremony.
The Polk County Economic Development Corporation (PCEDC) recognized four Polk County busi- nesses for their contributions to eco- nomic and community development. The awards for Large Business, Small Business, Business Service, and Energy Efficiency were presented by Steve Healy, Executive Director of Polk County Economic Development Corporation, during an awards luncheon at Brothers Restaurant, located in Turtle Lake, May 17, 2016. The Small Business Award was presented to Berghammer Builders, Inc. President Joe Berghammer ac- cepted the award and recognition on behalf of Berghammer Builders of Clayton.
The Clayton/Turtle Lake baseball squad knocked off #2-seeded St. Croix Falls Tuesday night, May 31, and will face the #1-seeded Unity Eagles on Wednesday evening, June 1 in Unity. In their opening round matchup C/TL took care of business by defeating Luck/Frederic by a score of 14-8. Cameron Bodsberg earned the win, pitching seven in- nings, giving up 8 runs on 7 hits, 7 walks and a pair of hit batsmen.
In the tournament one in- ning can send you packing your bags and heading home, and that became the fate of the Clayton/Turtle Lake girls softball team this past week. Entering the tournament as a #1-seed and receiving a first round bye, C/TL rolled over Spooner 15-0 in three innings to meet up with #4-seeded Chequamegon. Chequamegon pulled off an 8-run third in- ning on four hits, four walks and three errors. C/TL battled back with a 6-run sixth inning to tie the game back up before Chequamegon got one in the seventh and held on for a 13- 12 win. McKenna Larson took the loss on the mound, going seven innings, giving up 13 runs on 7 hits, 10 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Erik Bauer, Kent Nonemacher and the girls 4×200 relay team (Makayla Fagerlin, Gabbie Lien, Madysn Cardinal and Mary Hoffman) are making the trip to the 2016 WIAA State Track and Field Tournament held at UW-La Crosse this weekend, June 3rd and 4th.

Nate Splett, professor of agricultural economics and interim Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, has been awarded the 2006 Distinguished Teacher Award, the highest award the University bestows upon its faculty.
If it’s industrial rehabilitation or a balance disorder, Turtle Lake now has the services needed to help the patient on the road to recovery. Turtle Lake Physical Therapy & Rehab Services celebrated their Open House on Wednesday, May 24th and proudly displayed their facility and services, located at 214B Maple Street in downtown Turtle Lake.
The Turtle Lake/Clayton track team finished their second year of co-oped track with eight girls qualifying for five events, and one boy qualifying for two events at the Sectional track meet held Thursday, May 25 in Colfax. Of the nine sectional qualifiers, Adrienne Raffesberger qualified for the State meet in th elong jump. The State meet will be held Friday and Saturday, June 2 & 3, at Memorial Stadium at UW-LaCrosse. Adrienne hit the best jump of her career. Her 16-foot long jump earned her a third place finish and the trip to State.
Jim Klingelhoets received congratulations from his teammates after slugging a fifth inning home run. The home run turned out to be the game-ending hit as Clayton/ Turtle Lake pounded out 12 runs in a 12-2 five-inning win to open tournament action. Erik Halverson earned the win, pitching five innings of three hit baseball, walking four and striking out seven while giving up two earned runs.

“I’ve brought the site plan for the proposed McDonald’s Restaurant and AMOCO Service Station for your approval tonight. It is hoped the groundbreaking will be in mid-July or first part of August. We are requesting that there be two entrances off the frontage road and one off the proposed north/south street ir/when it is built,: stated Mr. Paul Kingbay as he appeared before the Turtle Lake Village Board at their regular May meeting on Monday, May 20th.
The Turtle Lake School Board held their regular monthly meetingn on Tuesday, May 21, due to the regularly scheduled night being the last day of the Memorial Day weekend. A representative of Concerned Parents requested to speak on two items, additional staffing recommendations for the 1996-97 school yuear and the closed session which was to consider employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation of Administrative state.
Congratulations to Angie Flanagan, 8th grade, and Brent King, 5th grade, for successfully completing the 10,000 shots basketball program. Angie and Brent have completed the 10,000 shots every year they have been eligible.
WITC Architectural Commercial Design student JoDee Peterson, Turtle Lake, was the recipient of the Jim Hartzell Scholarship at the Spring Banquet and Honors/Awards program Tuesday, May 14 in the WITC Conference Center.

Mess Management Specialist First Class Douglas Stauner was chosen as Sailor of the Year for 1985 at Pugent Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. He was presented with a citation by Capt. Kent W. Larabee, Shipyard Administrative Officer.
Arthur, Kathy and Jimmy Blackwell of Chippewa Falls were featured on the WUSA-TV Channel 11 news special on Saturday evening, May 10, during the 10 p.m. newscast. Kathy, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Scheps of Almena, was the “Mom” selected for the Mother’s Day news special for that Saturday.
Kyle Tromanhauser, a missionary to Eastern Europe, will speak at 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Comstock Alliance Church on Sunday, May 25. Kyle has worked in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia and East Germany with East European refugees. He was arrested in Yugoslavia for transported Bibles and Christian literature. The Mission is based in Austria.
Philip Nelson, who was a co-captain of the Turtle Lake football team last fall, has decided to attend UW-River Falls and compete with the Falcon football team according to head coach Mike Farley.

May 27, 1976
A near capacity crowd of relatives and friends gathered in the Turtle Lake High School gymnasium Sunday afternoon, May 23, to witness the fifty-six members of the Cl;ass of 1976 receive their diplomas from Board of Education President Harland Becker. Mr. Joe Waldo gave the Valedictory address and Mr. Marv Dietrich gave the Salutatory address.
Turtle Lake’s track team turned in a fine performance at the Lakeland Conference Track Meet at Bruce by placing third and crowning three boys as Lakeland Conference Champions. Steve Marg won both the high jump and pole vault with his high jump mark of 5’ 11’’, establishing a new Turtle Lake High School record and a new Lakeland Conference record. Marv Dietrich is the newly crowned conference discus champion with a throw of 124’ 11-1/2’’.
On display is the beautiful conference baseball championship trophy won by the Turtle Lake Lakers this past week. The Lakers were undefeated in conference play and compitled an 8-3 overall record (including tournament play). This is the first championship earned by any Laker team in a number of years.Members of the team are Mike Schneider, Marv Dietrich, Mike Slack, Tom McQuillan, Dave Slack, Dale Pabst, John Bruner, Jeff Ranallot, Jim Catlin, Roman Molls, Mike Waldo, Kevin Hoffman, Mark Downing, Phil Schneider, Steve Hoffman, Jeff Raffesberger, Jeff Hoffman, Russ Beckstron and Coach Steve Randall.
