The local Knights of Columbus presented the Turtle Lake Food Pantry with a monetary donation made possible from their annual 40 Cans for Lent campaign. With such a successful year this year one check was presented re- cently with another one on it’s way this fall. Accepting the check from Knight Dave Wozniak is Anne Armstrong. Also present were Grand Knight Gerry Austinson and Food Pantry volunteer Donna Cordes.
An important part of this form of transformation is to develop close ties with the community that will result in benefits to both students ad local industry. Students will benefit by participating an various programs designed to allow interaction with professionals in real-world enviroments. Industry will benefit by raising awareness of the varied and rewarding careers available locally. To this end Sanmina has donated an industrial-sized robot to the industrial arts department at Turtle Lake schools.
Struggling to get a game in due to Mother Nature, the Clayton/Turtle Lake girls softball team hit the home field in Clayton for a non-con- ference matchup with the Glenwood City Hilltoppers. After falling behind 2-0 the CT girls pushed over four unanswered runs for the 4-2 win. McKenna Larson had 13 strikeouts for CT, including striking out the side in the fourth inning, to earn the win. Taylor Schneider, Colleen Stanley and Jensyn Bussewitz were all one for three at the plate. Bussewitz crossed the plate once while Mackinzie Fall, Schneider and Cammie Ketz scored the other three runs.
The Turtle Lake High School junior class announces their 2016 Prom Court. Juniors making court are Erik Bauer, Jared Beach, Joe Schalley, Kyle Waite, Collin Hoffman, Makenzi Gehrman, Natalie Garcia, Liz Anderson, Kailey Teich, and Mariah Capra. The theme for this year’s prom is “Club 17” a hip hop dance club. Prom will be held in the Turtle Lake School High school from this Saturday, April 23rd from 7:30 -11:00 p.m. Coronation will take place at 9:00 p.m. Doors will open for spectators of coronation at 8:45 p.m. There will be a $2.00 cover charge to watch coronation.

Kurt Schoencker, a representative of Siemens, gave a presentation to the Turtle Lake school board members regarding the upgrading of the school’s outdated heating and ventilation system. Mr. Schoenecker told the board an initial visit to the Turtle Lake school was made a couple of months ago and approximately three weeks ago a preliminary audit was performed.
During the Village of Turtle Lake’s 2nd Annual Earth Week, Earth Day through Arbor Day, several events will be focusing on this year’s theme, “Conserving Our Resources,” beginning April 22nd. Tia Nelson, executive secretary of the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, and daughter of Senator Gaylord Nelson of Clear Lake, WI, founder of Earth Day, will be speaking to high school and middle school students as well as the public in three communities on Monday, April 24th.
The Clayton-Turtle Lake baseball team finally hit the field on Monday, April 10 when they traveled to Luck. And despite tour scoreless innings, the guys pounded the ball in two innings for a 9-3 win. Erik Halverson earned the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits, four walks and seven strikeouts. Chaz Dayton and Erik Halverson were both two for four hitting with a ru scored. Ryan Donath was one for four with a pair of runs scored.
The Turtle Lake-Clayton girls softball team traveled to Northwood Monday, April 10th and although they grabbed a quick 1-0 lead, were handed an 11-2 loss. Justice Hare took the loss, pitching seven innings, giving up 11 runs, three earned, on eight hits, three walks and a pair of strikeouts. Brittany Graber led the hitters, going two for four with oen run scored. Emma Molls and Kylie Krecker were both one for two.

A new Lions Club was organized Tuesday evening, March 26, in Almena when twenty-four members elected club officers, chose a name and set a time and meeting place for their future meetings. The total membership is expected to be between 35 – 40 members by the time the Club is officially chartered on April 28th. Steve Horn was elected as President while Mike Kuhl is 1st Vice President. Jon Schmidt is 2nd Vice President and Dale Wohlk is 3rd Vice President.
Associates at Hartzell Manufacturing in Turtle Lake are busy preparing for an Open House to be held Saturday, April 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All Turtle Lake area residents and business partners, as well as associates and their families, are invited to attend.
The Turtle Lake junior high wrestling team put 11 wrestlers in the finals and came away with six champions at the junior high conference tournament held recently at Cumberland. Eric Nordquist, Bob Popenhagen, Nathan Bylander, Nathan Glinski, Jacob Larson and Jeremy Raffesberger each won championships for the Lakers.
Breanna Thomson, daughter of Chuck and Sybil Thompson of Almena, earned enough points to enable her to advance from Level 5 to Level 6 for ages 8-11 in a meet held in Duluth in March. Achieving a personal best effort of 8.4 in the vault and 7.3 in floor exercises, combined with an 8.0 in bars nd 7.4 in beam, Breanna helpered her team ern 14th place in the meet with a score of 94.6.

LCDR Gregory H. Becker graduated from U.S. Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, in Business Management. His studies involved Defense Economics and Decision Making, Policy and Strategy and Naval Operations. The graduation exercise was held at the Spruance Auditorium of the Newport Naval College on Tuesday, March 11, 1986 at 1:30 p.m.
April is a very busy, fun month at Preschool Playhouse Child Care Center located in St. Ann’s Center in Turtle Lake. The large playground has finally dried up enough to enable the students to go outside to play games, exercise and even to pick up debris after a long winter.
Five Laker wrestlers participated in a Regional Qualifying Wrestling Tournament at Ellsworth last weekend. Four of them placed first or second to qualify for the State Meet in Wisconsin Rapids in two weeks. The Wisconsin Wrestling Federation holds this Junior Olympic Series in the state each year. The State qualifiers are Chris Hansen, a th grader; Ryan Shortess, a fifth grader; Aaron Nickel, a 6th grader; and Kurt Olsvig, a fourth grader.

Approximately 50 Turtle Lake third graders enjoyed a tour of the Yellow River Supply Corp. and Ostermann Sand and Gravel Corp. plant just north of the Village of Turtle Lake Wednesday morning. Their instructors are Miss Paulette Lahde and Mr. Paul Prevenas.
A drama, “At the Foot of the Cross”, will be presented by the young people at the communion service Thursday evening, April 15. The drama was written by Gary Brats and is being directed by Mrs. Bruce Davis. Members of the cast are Laurie Davis, Cathy Fredrick, Karen Fredrick, Mary Fredericks, Janet Nack, Bob DeGolier, Bruce King and Tom Lueck. The service begins at 8:00 p.m.
Official election results of the election of School Board Members Turtle Lake Public Schools is as follows: Donovan Niemann – 568; Gerd Bents – 498; Ronald King – 387; Otto Becker – 286; Paul Pett – 256; Richard Oldroyd – 186; Jack Nessen – 1; Andrew Gazdik – 1; Carl Marske – 1; Harland Becker – 1. The board of Canvassers have duly confirmed the names of Donovan Niemann and Gerd Bents to three year terms and Ronald King to a one-year term, all to begin on April 26, 1976.
A group of nine people from Turtle Lake High School are planning to participate in the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa – 1976. The trip will be taken from August 1 – 7. Those from Turtle Lake who will participate are Mr. and Mrs. John Fitzgerald, Mr. Mike Anderson, Tom Lueck, Tracy Schmidt, Tammy Schmidt, Ann Molls, Mark Huehn and Laurie Davis.
