Twenty-nine Turtle Lake High School senior will walk the aisle for the final time Friday evening, May 27, as they receive their high school diplomas during the 2016 Commencement Exercises to be held in the high school gymnasium. Taylor Schneider was announced as this year’s Valedictorian. Kellyy Catlin was named Salutatorian for this year’s graduating class.
The Turtle Lake School is “Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence” with an All-School Reunion. Alumni and retired staff are invited to gather at the school on Saturday, July 9th beginning at 3:00 p.m. Plans have been made for school tours, class photos and a short pro- gram in the high school gym as well as videos playing of photos, inter- views and other interesting information. Gathering areas will be in the elementary gym with refreshments being served.
With Polk and Barron counties ranking at the top of the class in re- gards to meth problems in the State of Wisconsin, Town Hall meetings are being held to inform interested residents in regards to issues created due to meth use. On Thursday, June 2nd, Grace Community Church in Turtle Lake will be the site of a Town Hall meeting on Meth.
The Turtle Lake/Clayton track team is moving ten athletes onto the sectional meet on Thursday, May 26th in Colfax. These athletes qualifed at the Regional Track Meet held at Unity on Monday, May 23rd. Mady Cardinal, Caden Torgerson, Erik Bauer, Kent Nonemacher, Christopher Moskal, Makayla Fagerlin, Gabbie Lien, Mary Hoffman, Liz Anderson, and Kelly Catlin will all move onto the sectional meet.
The Clayton/Turtle Lake girls undefeated season took a hit this past week as they dropped two of their three remaining regular season games, one to Grantsburg at home and the other in Cameron. However, the losses had no affect on the play- offs as C/TL entered as the #1-seed and will face Spooner Wednesday, May 25 at home following a first round bye. The winner of that contest will meet the winner of the Chetek/Weyerhaeuser vs. Chequamegon contest Friday, May 27.
Collin Hoffman went seven complete last Thursday against the Grantsburg Pirates. Following up a no-hitter earlier the week prior, Hoffman gave up three runs on three hits, four walks and two hit batsmen in an 11-3 win on the Clayton field. Hoffman also led the hitters, going two for four with a pair of runs scored and three batted in.

America’s Young Warriors is a bi-monthly publication of the Veterans of Underage Military Service men and women and features stories of the “kids” in the military. Longtime Turtle Lake resident Darwin Platter just happens to be one of thos “kids”, enlisting into the Navy before he was of age.

LaKrista Koegel has been announced as this year’s Valedictorian and Gabe Stoppelmoor is this year’s Salutatorian.
The Clayton/Turtle Lake baseball squad earned a come-from-behind win against Plum City at home and then ended the regular season with an 11-1 thrashing at the hands of the Cameron Comets. Chaz Dayton took the loss against the Comets, pitching two innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and three walks. Dan Gross took the win against Plum City with four-and-a-third innings of relief, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
The Turtle Lake/Clayton girls softball team dropped a pair of five inning games, one to Shell Lake on the road and the other to Clear Lake at home. Brittany Graber was two for three batting with a run scored against Shell Lake. Missy Cimfl led the TL/C hitters with a two for three performance and one run scored against the Warriors.

Forty-one members of the Class of 1996 will enter the Turtle Lake High School gymnasium to the familiar strains of “Pomp and Circumstance” to become the 80th Graduating Class at Turtle Lake this Friday evening, May 24. Bryan Hansen, son of Tom and Nancy Hansen, will deliver the Salutatorian Address. The Valedictorian Address will be given by Keeley Becker, daughter of Jeff and Debbie Becker.
Five generations gathered recently to help Sadie Thomas celebrate her 85th birthday. Attending were Sandy Mathieu, grandmother; Tara Johnson, mother; Tyler Barta Johnson, great great grandson; Sadie Thomas, great great grandmother; and Rosemary Splatt, great grandmother.
The “Accelerated Reader” program uses computers to encourage reading. It is perhaps the best way to motivate, manage and asses literature-based reading available today. Accepting a donation from Booster Club members Brenda Carlson and Bonnie Peterson is High School Librarian Pat Swerkstrom.

Jeff Becker, of Turtle Lake, caught a nice 5 lb. 5 oz. largemouth bass in Poskin Lake on Sunday, May 11. After registering it at Jay’s Sport Shop in Almena, Jeff released the fish in Upper Turtle Lake.
Manfred Schonauer, entertainer and composer, will present his Sound Sculptures this Saturday, May 17, at Chalice Stream, a dance center located five miles south of Ladysmith. Sound Sculptures is a collection of Manfred’s original compositions for electronic synthesizers and keyboards.
The Turtle Lake Lakers girls track team earned 85 points to place second in the Lakeland Conference Track Meet at Rice Lake Monday afternoon. A strong Flambeau team took first place with 130-1/2 points. Wanda Clark is the Conference Champion in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes for the second year in a row. She also set a personal record in the long jump and was a member of the second place 800 mater relay team. Karalyn Littlefield was also a champion in the discus with her throw of 104’ 8-1/2’’.

Fifty-six members of the Class of 1976 will enter the Turtle Lake High School gymnasium this Sunday afternoon, May 23, to the familiar strains of “Pomp and Circumstance”, played by the high school band to become the 60th graduating class of Turtle Lake High School. Following the Salutatory Address given by Marvin Dietrich, Joe Waldo presented the Valedictory Address.
Monday, May 17 was a red letter day for the Turtle Lake Lakers baseball team as they met the Prairie Farm Panthers in a contest that could decide the Western Lakeland Conference championship. Leading 7-6 heading into the seventh inning the Lakers scored four more runs to take an 11-6 victory and the Western Lakeland Conference title.
Three Turtle Lake High School track records, dating back to 1959, 1960 and 1964 were broken by members of the 1976 track team this past week. Rick Swenson set a new 220 dash record with a time of 24.0 seconds, breaking the old record of 24.1 seconds set by Gale Sorum in 1964. Steve Marg earned his second new record of the season with a 5’ 11’’ jump in the high jump, breaking the school record of 5’ 8’’ set by Dennis Louks in 1959 and the conference record of 5’ 10-1/2’’ held by Jeff Healy of Clear Lake. Marv Dietrich set a new school record in the high hurdles with a time of 16.5 seconds, breaking the record set by Dennis Louks in 1960 of 16.7 seconds.
