Kevin Jansen, owner and Chief Operating Officer of Infinity Retail Services, appeared before the Turtle Lake Village Board to discuss issues he has experienced the past three years in regards to his driveway into his business cracking. Although no estimate to repair the issue has been forwarded to the Village, Jansen and his general contractor and soil expert contend the issue is due to work the Village took ypon themselves to do inr egards to sewer and water lines.
Wednesday, April 22, 2015, was an eventful day at Turtle Lake School District. students in kindergarten – seniors participated in Earth Day activities. The day kicked off with watching a segment of the documentary, “Addicted to Plastic” which took the students into the middle of the Pacific Ocean and showed how much dangerous plastic is actually in the water.
Donators, volunteers and sponsors of the Turtle Lake softball field were honored Monday afternoon, April 27 prior to the CTL girls softball game with Webster/Sirenn for their contributions to the upgrade of the field. A Outdoor Facilities Improvement Committee was formed and identified the softball field, baseball field, football field and track as to high needs of im- provement. The high school softball field received new dugouts, new fencing, removal of brush and new grass during the past year.
In their first golf match of the 2015 season the Turtle Lake varsity participated in a 7-school match at Amacoy Golf Course in Bruce. Travis Henck finished the match as runner-up, shooting a 41. Ben Anderson followed in third place for the Lakers with a 42. As a team the Lakers came in fourth. This was the first match of the year for the golf squad. Coach Steve Bergmann said eight students are participating this year, with Anderson as the lone returner. Varsity team members include Travis Henck, Wade Rudick, Jackie Lee and Ben Anderson.
A two-out,two-run home run in the top of the sixth sent the Webster/Siren squad home with a 7-6 win Monday evening following a baseball battle at the Turtle lake field. Cameron Bodsberg took theloss, givin gup 7 runs on 10 hits, two walks and four strikeouts.
On the afternoon of the dedication of the softball field improvements at the Turtle Lake field, the Clayton/Turtle Lake girls tested out the base paths as they defeated Webster/Siren 15-0 in three innings. McKenna Larson pitched three complete for the win, giving up two hits, two walks while striking out four.

All community mem-bers and organizations are welcome to join the GTLAA and participate in Join Hands Day, Saturday, May 7th. This national volunteer day brings youths and adults together to help others, improve communities, build lasting relationships and most importantly – to have some fun.
The northwest wind was howling, cropping temperatures into the mid-40s, but it wasn’t enough to deter volunteers from braving the elements and helping out with Earth Day projects set yo by the Village. Members of the cub scouts, boy scouts, brownies, girl scouts, Lions and Lioness clubs, and residents, participated in lanscaping in and around the Village Park, Railway Park and the Boy Scout Camp.
The Clayton/Turtle Lake baseball team split games last week against Shell Lake and St. Croix Falls. Against Shell Lake C/TL scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh in a 13-12 game. Erik Halverson got the win against Shell Lake, pitching seven innings, giving up twelve runs, nine earned, on twelve hits, eight walks and strikign out two.
The Turtle Lake/Clayton girls struggled through a four game stretch, winning one of the four, but that win was a no-hitter thrown by senior pitcher Heidi Becker. The girls were on the road to Cameron Monday, April 18th, and came away with their finest game of the season when Becker pitched the no-hitter, striking out two and facing one over the minimum, while the defense did the rest, retiring thirteen Cameron runners without an error in the 11-0 win.

The 1995 Junior Prom will be held this Saturday, April 28, from 8:30 p.m. to 12 midnight in the Turtle Lake elementary gym. Coronation of the Prom Royal Court will be held at 11:00 p.m. Member’s of this year’s court are Jessica Effertz, Kaija Anderson, Jolene Nitchey, Keeley Becker, Bridget Scribner, Jon Bussewitz, Jeff Roff, Ryan Eichman, Matt Torgerson and Justin Gamache.
A drawing, created by Nstive American artist Joe Milner-Benjamin, will be a special feature of Celebrating the Arts Night at Turtle Lake High School on Tuesday, May 2. This drawing was created during an afternoon talk and demonstration for the Turtle Lake high school art students earlier this spring.
The new multi-purpose facility at the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake officially became the Don Saros Room at a special dedication ceremony on Saturday, April 15. Don Saros was the Tribal Chairman from 1991 to 1993. Under his direction the tribe built and opened the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake.
Three international exchange students at Turtle Lake High School will exhibit at Arts Night on May 2. They are Annika Hahnfeld from Germany, Elixabetta Sala from Italy and Ivanna fromCroatia. The girls enrolled in several art clases. Having had no previous art experience, they absolutely loved the classes.

Dr. J. A. Borrman and Dr. A. C. Halberg, in conjunction with the Cumberland Medical Clinic, are pleased to announce the Grand Opening of the new Turtle Lake Medical Clinic on Sunday, April 28, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p..m. The public is invited to visit the newly constructed facility and to enjoy refreshments served by the Turtle Lake Lions Club. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m.
The Turtle Lake FFA Livestock Judging Team will compete in the State Contest in Madison on Friday, April 28. The team qualified for the state competition by placing second out of twenty-seven teams at the River Falls Ag Techniques Contest. Members of the team are Mark Peters, Karalyn Littlefield, Michael Littlefield and Ron Hanson.
On Saturday, April 13, Ryan Shortess qualified for the State Free Style Wrestling Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, Aoril 27, in Wisconsin Rapids. Ryan placed first in the 10 and under age group at the Ellsworth State Qualifier, which is one of five qualifiers held in the state. Ryan holds a 17-1 record in tournament wrestling.
The Turtle Lake elementary gym has been transformed into “A Night In Heaven” for the annual Junior Prom to be held this Saturday, April 27. Members of this year’s royal court are Jody Clark, Lori Hansen, Sue Leschisin, JoAnn Palas, Sue Stauner, Rick Swantish, Dave Fuson, Brian Nessen, Corey Kleinschmidt and Phil Nelson.

With the fire season at hand, it appears that people must again be reminded of the law in reagrd to yeilding to emergency vehicles and the law on following emergency vehicles, according to Turtle Lake Fire District Chieft Frank Klingelhoets and Chief of Police F.F. Anderson.
The United States Department of Interior Bureau of Outdoor Recreation has made a grant of $3,750 to the Village of Turtle Lake for acquisition of 1.5 acres as a park addition. The grant is one of a series of matching grants designed to help local governments purchase needed lands and develop facilities for outdoor recreation.
One of the Village’s favorite fishing spots for many of the young people will not be so good this year. A number of dead fish have appeared at Skinaway Lake this spring as a result of the lake freezing out this past winter.
The Turtle Lake baseball team lost their season opener at Boyceville by a score of 13-7 on Wednesday, April 23. Marv Dietrich was the losing pitcher with 8 strikeouts, 5 walks, two hits and no earned runs.
