Stressing the importance of offering nutritious meals to children during the summer months, the School District of Turtle Lake announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) andn is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Pulbic Instruction, provides nutritious meals to children during the summer when free and reduced-price school meals are typically unavailable.
The Outdoor Facilities Improvement Committee recently met with Lake Country Dairy to discuss their goals for the Turtle Lake School District outdoor facilities, specifically the baseball field. The baseball field currently needs a major renovation. One of the main goals of the committee is to excavate the infield and outfield. Lake Country Dairy donated $5,000 to the renovation of the baseball field. The committee will continue to fundraise for the field, but this is a great start. The Outdoor Facilities Committee would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Lake Country Dairy for their kindness and generosity.
Senior Ben Anderson earned medalist honors with a 41 as the Turtle Lake High School golf team finished in fifth place at a match Tuesday, April 28th at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake. Wade Rudick shot a 53 for the Lakers. The Lakers, as a team, finished with a score of 227.
The Clayton/Turtle Lake girls softball team continued their impressive season with double digit wins over St. Croix Falls and Frederic/Luck this past week. Last Tuesday afternoon, April 28, the girls traveled to St. Croix Falls and used a ten-run second inning to defeat the Saints 17-4 in five innings. The girls followed that win up with a double-header home win over Frederic/Luck by scores of 13-2 and 10-2.
The Turtle Lake/Clayton track team traveled to Shell Lake and St. Croix Falls last week. At St. Croix Falls both Turtle Lake and Clayton school records were broken. Thegirls 4×800 meter relay team consisting of Kelly Catlin, Makayla Fagerlin, Liz Anderson and Mary Hoffman broke the Turtle Lake and Clayton school records with a time of 10:40.25. Jake Anderson broke the Clayton school record in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 45.74.

Mr. David Parnell, a former meth addict and a survivor of a suicide attempt, was present at the Turtle Lake schools Tuesdau, April 26 to give a presentation to the 6-12 students, and then to the parents and residents, on his experiences with meth. Parnell is 37 years old, married and has seven children. He is also a methamphetamine and suicide survivor. He was addicted to meth for \seven years before attempting suicide by shooting himself under the chin with an SKS assault rifle, literally blowing his face apart.
Lance Hougdahl and Sierra Swantish were crowned the 2005 Prom King and Queen at the annual Junior Class Prom held Saturdau night, April 23, in the Turtle Lake High School Gym. An Evening In Paris was this year’s theme. Prom court included Justice Hare, Amber Hubbard, Queen Sierra Swantish, LaKrista Koegel, Alicia Henck, John Wick, Justin Hoisington, King Lance Hougdahl, Kyle Stalpes and Beau Harris.
The Clayton-Turtle Lake baseball team lost a pair of heart-breakers this past week, both by one run. A four-run seventh came up short last Monday afternoon at Turtle Lake as the guys lost to Prairie Farm, 14-13. Then on the road Thursday the guys were leading 5-2 in the seventh before Cameropn came back to tie the gam eup in the bottom of the seventh and gain the win with a run in the eighth.
The Turtle Lake-Clayton girls softball team was on the road this past week when they traveled to Northwood Tuesday, April 26. Six walks, two hit batsmen and a hit produced eight first inning runs for the Evergreens as they steam rolled Turtle Lake-Clayton in five. Brittany Graber led the hitters, going two for two with two doubles, two rbis and a walk, scoring twice.

Crowned King and Queen of the 1995 Turtle Lake Junior Prom last Friday evening were Justin Gamache and Keeley Becker. Other members of the court are Matt Torgerson, Bridget Scribner, Ryan Eichman, Jessica Effertz, Kaija Anderson, Jon Bussewitz, Jolene Nitchey and Jeff Roff. The coronation of the 1995 Royalty was held at approximately 11:00 p.m.
An appreciation dinner was recently held in honor of Bill Molls retirement from the Almenan Township Board. Bill had served as a supervisor for the Town of Almena for 28 years. Bill received a certificated from the Wisconsin Towns Association and a plaque from the Town of Almena. Making the presentation is Gary Solum, Chairman for the Town of Almena.
Turtle Lakek Lakers boys and girls track teams competed in their first meet of the 1995 season at St. Croix Falls. Also competing were Luck and Clayton. The girls came home with 1st place and the boys tood 2nd.
Students in the Special Education program at Turtle Lake High School once again have learned good work behaviours and entry level job skills in the community at local Turtle Lake employers. This is t he fifth year that Turtle Lake High School, CESA and the West Central Wisconsin Private Industry Council have worked as partners to provide job readiness training to students in a School-to-Work transition program.

Mr. Earl Strub, Administrator of Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Mr. Olaf Pederson, representing the Turtle Lake Lions Club, Mr. John Ludy, Chairman of the Board of Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Mr. Ted Heintz, President of the Village of Turtle Lake, Dr. Joel Bormann of the Turtle Lak eMedical Clinic, Mr. Mike Hopkins, General Contractor, and Dr. Thomas Lingen, of t he Cumberland Clinic cut the ribbon to officially open the new Turtle Lake Medical Clinic on Sunday, April 28, 1985.
Recently Sp. 4 Eric Solum, of Co. B 1/128th Mech. Infantry of New Richmond, WI was selected Wisconsin National Guard Soldier of the Year. This was something Solum never throught would happen when he joined the Guard in September 1981. Solum’s opportunity to compete for the award began in January when his New Richmond unit started to evaluate its members records to find a suitable candidate. Solum had moved into an E-5 sergeant slot as team leader of his rifle squad.
The Turtle Lake Lakerettes track team has won one meet, tied for first in another and placed 2nd in a third meet in the past two weeks. Tuesday, April 18 the won the meet in Clear Lake. On Tuesdau, April 23 the Lakerettes and the Laker boys competed in the Spoonern Invitational. For the girls it came right down to the last event, the 1600m relay team, as to whether they would be in contention for first place. On Friday, April 29, the Lakeretttes placed second in the Frederic Invitational.

Will there or won’t there be swimming lessons in Turtle Lake? The answer to this important question depends on you with children eligible to participate in the program. During the summer of 1974 there was a very successful program offered. Now is the time to think about this summer and start working for the same fine program of water safety and swimming instruction.
St. Ann Parish was honored Sunday morning at the 10:00 a.m. mass by the McCauley Family, an instrumental and vocal group from Beloit, who sang the mass and the beautiful hymns, including the processional and the recessional. Mrs. Wayne Gustina, who is an intern in the music department of Turtle Lake School, is a member of the group.
The Turtle Lake Lakers hosted the Cumberland Beavers in the Lakers’ first home baseball game of the 1975 season on Friday, May 2. In a hard fought contest, the Lakers managed to come from behind to get their first victory of the season by a score of 5-4. Hitting stars for the game were Marv Dietrich with two hits for the Lakers and Scott Krueger for Cumberland who garnered a long double.
The Laker golfers hosted the Glenwood City golf team in a match at the Clear Lake Golf Course on Monday, May 5 and returned home with their first win of the season, 183 – 197. Turtle Lake’s four low scorers were Mark Dietrich – 43, Jim Wick – 46, Bill Dieters – 46 and Dan Ritsche – 48.
